In the skincare world, there are so many products, and right now many people are confused about the best products they need to use, how to use them and the steps to follow.
Here is a breakdown on skincare routine for all skin types.
MORNING REGIMEN
STEP 1: CLEANSER
Cleansing your skin correctly can keep you looking radiant. By cleansing your skin with the right type of products, you can prevent blemishes and skin infections.
STEP 2:TONER
Toner helps with refreshing your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture. It can help close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing, reducing the penetration of impurities and environmental contaminants into the skin.
STEP 3: ANTIOXIDANT SERUM
Antioxidant helps with reversing the effects of aging by improving skin health and rejuvenating its appearance.
STEP 4: EYE CREAM
Using eye cream protects the skin around your eyes far better than just using a moisturizer. Eye creams are also formulated to reduce puffiness and dark circles. Moisturizers on the other hand, are formulated for the entire face and not dedicated for eye care.
STEP 5: SPOT TREATMENT
A spot treatment is a perfect way to combat an existing pimple and prevent a new one from forming.
STEP 6: MOISTURIZER
Moisturizing reduces skin problems. Everyday use can help reduce the chances of developing extreme dryness or oiliness.
STEP 7: SUNSCREEN
Sunscreen should be the last step in your daytime skincare routine. It protects your skin from sunburn caused by exposure to too much ultraviolet (UV) light. It helps reduce the appearance of skin discoloration, dark spots, sagging and wrinkles. These protections help the skin to maintain a more an even tone overall.
NIGHT REGIMEN
STEP 1: DOUBLE CLEANSER
Double cleansing is a two-step cleaning process, basically, you clean your face with an oil-based cleanser and then with a water-based cleanser. The first step (the oil based cleanser) is to remove all the makeup and dust, and the second step (water based cleanser) is to get rid of the stubborn grime that would not have been removed by the oil based cleanser.
STEP 2:TONERS, ESSENCES AND BOOSTERS
Apply your toner as you would in the morning. These products can be considered as enhancers of everyday skin glow.
Toners, boosters, and essence combined with other skin care products creates the perfect synergy for the most complete and effective beauty routine.
STEP 3: EYE CREAM
Applying eye cream at night helps protect your delicate eye area from other skin care products.
STEP 4:TREATMENTS, SERUMS AND PEELS
Pick your evening treatment, serum and peels based on what your skin needs that night, not based on what you have in your products cabinet. Like the rest of the body, skin does the bulk of its repairing, restoring and regenerating as we sleep.
STEP 5: MOISTURIZER OR NIGHT CREAM
A facial moisturizer helps your skin retain its natural oils. Your skin loses moisture all day long, a good night cream will help to re-hydrate it.
KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE
I use a slightly different skincare routine and products for my skin type.
Your skin type and needs will determine the type of products you use. A skin test will confirm your skin type, if you’re not sure of what skin type you have. Skin types are dry skin, normal/combination, and oily skin.
Here are two easy ways to test for your skin type at home.
THE BLOTTING SHEET METHOD
This method is a very fast and simple process. Gently dab the blotting paper on different spots of your face, hold the sheet up against the light to determine how much oil is visible. If the sheet picked up little to no oil, you must likely have “dry skin”. If the blotting sheet reveals oil from the forehead and nose areas, your skin is “normal combination”. Lastly, if the blotting paper is saturated with oil, it is extremely likely that you have “oily skin”.
THE BARE-FACED METHOD
Cleanse your face thoroughly with a mild cleaner and gently pat dry. Leave skin bare and do not apply any additional moisturizers, serums or treatments.
After 30 minutes, examine your cheeks, chin, nose, and forehead for shine, evaluate whether your skin feels expressions. If your skin feels tight, your skin is likely “dry”. If there is noticeable shine on your nose and forehead, your skin is likely “normal/combination”. If there is shine on your cheeks in addition to your forehead and nose, you most likely have “oily skin”.
A lot of people have difficulties in choosing the perfect product for their skin type. We have like 1 million products in malls and stores, but we do not know the steps to apply them.
You get those highly recommended products, but you are wondering how to go about it.
Here is the breakdown of my skin care routine for my dry skin. This is not a paid ad for the products I have mentioned, they are solely products that I use.
MORNING ROUTINE (FOR MY DRY SKIN)
STEP 1: HYDRATING CLEANSER
A hydrating cleanser is essential to removing dirt and dead skin cells for dry skin, or normal to dry. Choosing a formula that will not disrupt the skin’s natural protective barrier or strip the skin of its natural moisture is important. I use the “Cerave hydrating cleanser”. This is a gentle face wash, It contains ceramides which helps restore and maintain the skin’s natural barrier, along with hyaluronic acid that attracts hydration to the skin’s surface.

STEP: 2 TONER
I tone my face to prepare my skin to take other treatments and to make my skin softer. Toner also shrinks pores and acts as a moisturizer.
STEP 3: VITAMIN C SERUM
Vitamin C serum helps clear up acne and reduce the redness associated with it. It also protects my skin from UV Rays. Vitamin C serum is not harsh on the skin, but it is important to start slowly then gradually increase usage as it may need getting used to.
STEP 4: HYALURONIC ACID
This acid brings moisture to the surface of my skin. It attracts hydration to the skin’s surface and it helps the skin retain moisture.
STEP 5: EYE GEL
I use eye gel because of its lighter weight texture on my skin, although it still provides the kind of powerful ingredients that eye cream provides. Eye gels keeps my skin smooth, refreshed and help diminish morning puffiness. It also works well under makeup.
STEP 6: MOISTURIZER
I have always battled with skin dryness, breakouts and acne over the years. I started using “Cerave Mosturising Lotion (for dry to very dry skin)” this has helped improved my skin immensely. It is fragrance-free and non-irritating, my skin is hydrated for the whole day.
STEP 7: SUNSCREEN
Sunscreen is my most important weapon in keeping wrinkles and pigmentation at bay. I wear sunscreen regularly because it prevents tanning (getting darker/hyper-pigmentation) from exposure sun light.
NIGHT ROUTINE (FOR MY DRY SKIN)
STEP 1: OIL CLEANSER (If I have make up on)
Instead of using soaps or wipes to clean my makeup, I use oil cleanser. Oil cleansing gently removes makeup on my face, soothes my skin and tames unrelenting breakouts.

STEP 2: HYDRATING CLEANSER
After oil cleansing or not, I use my Cerave hydrating cleanser to remove dirt, oil on the skin and to retain moisture on my skin.
STEP 3: EXFOLIATE (ONCE A WEEK)
I exfoliate once a week with “The ordinary peeling solution”. This combined 32% AHA/BHA solution offers deeper exfoliation to help fight visible blemishes and for improved skin radiance. The formula also improves the appearance of the skin texture and help reduce smile/fine lines.

STEP 4:TONER OR ESSENCE
I apply my toner or essence as I would in the morning. These products prepare my dry skin to take other treatments and they make my skin softer.
STEP 5: EYE GEL
Using eye gel at night helps in reducing puffiness, fine lines and dark circles by moisturizing and firming the skin.
STEP 6: MOISTURIZER
Moisturizer fuels and re-hydrates my skin leaving it soft and moisturized always. I use “Cerave facial moisturising lotion PM (For normal to dry skin)” for its texture. This lotion PM lotion is lighter than the one mentioned above. It sinks into my skin immediately and gives me a soothing relief.
STEP 7: ROSEHIP OIL
The last step on my skincare night routine is the rosehip oil. Its ingredients are active in treating wrinkles, tightening my pores and brightening my skin. It is also active in fading any facial scars or unsightly marks.
